An Advent Prayer of Hope

November 26, 2019

We’ve given thanks, and now we wait.

We turn our eyes to Christmas, our hearts to the babe in the manger, our ears to the trumpet of His return.

Let’s enter this season of hopeful waiting with a prayer together:

We’ve waited, Lord. We’ve waited and prayed for so many things. But not without hope. You, our God, Ruler of the nations, are Comfort and Hope. You bring dry bones back to life. You make streams in the desert. You wrap the fullness of your love in swaddling cloths and proclaim your great joy to humble souls. And one day you will call us call us homeward, set right all our wrongs, and welcome us to your banqueting table.

We have you, Jesus, so we have so much hope. We wait expectantly for every movement of your Spirit, and we wait to find you in the paradox, the tension of being alive: the soothing warmth of a cup of tea and the bite of frost, the door opened by a stranger and the long checkout line, the brightness of a smile and the tears of pain. Just as we wait to find you in the red letter words, the faith lifting worship, the painted morning sky, and the clouds that will roll back as a scroll.

Because you came.

Because you are here.

Because you are coming.

We wait with hope. We wait with Hope.

As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me.

Micah 7:7
